Hailing from Leeds, self-produced Gen-Z quartet Artio forge ferocious and incendiary electronica-infused alt-rock anthems that are deeply rooted in queer rage and the trans experience.
Taking clear inspiration from fellow genre-defying trailblazers Enter Shikari, PVRIS and WARGASM to craft their innovative sound, the band zealously adhere to a DIY ethos – self-producing all their material, directing their own music videos, and creating custom stage outfits.
Signed to Slam Dunk Records in 2021, their cathartic ‘Pyrokid’ EP garnered praise from BBC Radio 1, Kerrang, Rock Sound and Upset for its modern and nuanced take on a coming-of-age record and saw the band explode in popularity on TikTok after lead single ‘Product Of My Own Design’ deeply resonated with the platform’s queer and trans communities.
Upcoming debut album ‘Babyface’ is a highly ambitious, emotionally charged story of growth, change, transition and evolution, accessible to anyone determined to break toxic cycles and bury their past self in attempts to grow. ‘Babyface’ arrives digitally 1st March 2024 via Slam Dunk Records.
“If you are a fan of Bring Me The Horizon and this new generation of post-hardcore and metal music, Artio feel like the next step in the right direction for you. They are embodying all those brilliant, groundbreaking ideas that a band like Bring Me initially came through with, but harness it in their very own and unique way. Perspective is everything when it comes to a band or an artist coming through and when you hear a new one, an exciting one, an impassioned one, that’s when something happens and Artio have got that.” – Jack Saunders, BBC Radio 1 Future Artists
“They are on fire! The band that just keeps releasing banger after banger.” – Alyx Holcombe, BBC Radio 1 Introducing Rock
“This is why the alt music scene is the best music scene in the world right now.” – Nels Hylton, BBC Radio 1 Future Alternative
“Artio have just revealed that they have signed to Slam Dunk Records, the home to all of the best up-and-coming rock and alt coming out of the North of England… It’s called ‘Pyrokid’ and whizzes and bangs with throbbing pop electronics alongside foot-tapping melody and rhythm. The result is an infectious and instantly smile-inducing piece of modern rock brilliance that feels like the start of a fascinating story.” – Rock Sound
